.
has the wts ever said specifically that there would be no more anoinments after 1935 or anything to that effect?
The WTS society try and keep quiet on the whole 1935 thing. Truth is that 5 men in the GB, who are all professed annointed, only joined the org in the 50's or 60's which kinda messes up their rule.
.
do you remember any from your childhood?
here's two.. one dark night when the moon was bright...two dead boys got up to fight...they lived on the corner in the middle of the block...in a two story house...on a vacant lot...back to back they faced each other...drew their swords and shot each other...a deaf policeman heard the noise and came and killed the two dead boys.. teacher, teacher don't wup me...wup that boy behind the tree...he stole the money and i stole the honey...ha, ha teacher ain't that funny.

i don't know if this happened to anyone else when they left the org but when i left i lost some of my sense of humour.
once i found out life wasn't a temporary trivial game with a happy ending in sight i found things took on a more serious aspect.. all through school and work i was more intent on making people laugh, dodging responsibility or taking time off than forging a career.
i thought what's the point, all this is temporary and won't matter soon.
Thanks everyone for your comments
Crumpet & Brenda you're right about not taking yourself too seriously. Also trying to relax and chill out a bit helps me with seeing the funny side of things like you said Merry. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and get frustrated and stressed quite easily.
tijkmo - I think you may have felt the same way I did. I could think of a really funny comment that I could make or joke on a subject but just thought 'what's the point?'. It was like a mental fatigue and the only comments you could make were hurtful sarcastic ones. I suppose there's a psychological explanation for it in that you're trying to tell people how you're feeling by making them as miserable as you are. It's not the ideal way to express ourselves - thank goodness were over it!
what gives with the people who run st helens league club?
they have a coach who has made them a champion team but they don't like him?????
huh??
You can get thrown out of rugby league grounds over here if you shout foul language. The RFL are trying to make all the grounds family friendly. I suppose they're trying to make a unified stand on the issue including those employed by the clubs.
It's pretty ludicrous really in my opinion. Ok foul language isn't nice but if your a rugby coach and you get carried away in the heat of the moment you're gonna say stuff that conveys your exasperation. It certainly isn't gross misconduct.
Kids in St Helens are likely to hear 100 times more swears in the playground than emenating from Ian Millward. The St Helens fans are definitely against this disciplinary action, hopefully their voices will be heard.
We don't want you Aussies to think we're a bunch of [edited] pansies!
not just one you have seen - or even researched since leaving.
but the oldest one you recall studying when you 'got the truth' or as a child?.
i remember "let god be true" - 'babylon the great has fallen'- and 'paradise restored - paradise regained' [the big orangish/pink book - hope i got the name right] - all 50's early 60's books.
Listening To The Great Teacher was the first one I remember. I always thought the 2 colour pictures in the society's publications were funny. It was like looking at a scene from the bible through a candy wrapper.

All through school and work I was more intent on making people laugh, dodging responsibility or taking time off than forging a career. I thought what's the point, all this is temporary and won't matter soon. I was always popular with schoolmates and work friends cos I had a good sense of humour but I never associated with them cos they were 'worldly'. It was a nice outlet though during 9 to 5 as at JW meetings humour is seen as flippancy so I was just quiet and serious at JW gatherings. Now that I have the opportunity to go out with friends and have a laugh I find I'm totally stressed out with trying to make up for lost time and also feel insular in not being a JW but not quite of the real world either.
It was the loss of the ability to lift the oppression of any situation with a joke that prompted me to seek psychiatric help. I was panicked because I found myself sinking into depression and unable to convey how I was feeling as a JW upbringing teaches you that such expressions are signs of weakness. I couldn't make light of the situation as it wasn't transitory or ephemeral but was real, serious and needed figuring out.
It is getting better and some of my wit and sarcasm show themselves at various times. I do feel I am a different person though and I need to get a handle on my new personality.
A big help has been this site and discussing issues with everyone and hearing their experiences. Also having a laugh and a joke about funny, stupid and weird subjects. So I'd like to say a thankyou to everyone on the board
see "albania: missionaries nonplussed by child suicide links.
media campaign blaming jehovah's witnesses for mysterious spate of children's deaths raises witch-hunt fears.".
my take is that this would be an international problem.
Interesting article. There were obviously underlying problems in those childrens lives but the WTS literature is not without blame for holding out a false hope. Is it more to blame than any other religion though which offers heaven, paradise, reincarnartion etc? Maybe, the main thrust of all WTS literature is armageddon and paradise earth which implants fear and trepidation in people, especially impressionable young children.
hi all, i am meeting up with my father in a couple of weeks(all that know me know i havent seen him for three months or spoken to him) anyway he called up the other night to finally see how i was and he kept saying so you do you think you will come back to the truth.anyway i want to confront him bout the whole organization being involved in the un but i want to make sure i have all the info on it and know everything there is to know bout it so i can get my point across.
can anyone help me as i know they are involved but not to what extent, thanks.

I'm thinking of doing something similar with my parents. What I'm going to do is write down a lot of the JW's main doctrines (paradise earth, 144.000, 1914 and other dates etc) and write down all the info I can about them. Also answers to any rebuttals that my parents might bring up. Some of the scriptural ones are -
Ephesians 4:4 - There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called? One Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
Why would the name God gave to His people not be "Christians" since Acts 11:26 says, "The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch"? Why is the name "Jehovah's Witness" found nowhere in the New Testament, if that is God's divine name for His people under the new covenant? Why would God wait almost 2000 years to suddenly start using the name "Jehovah's Witness". Does this mean that first century Christians were not known as Jehovah's Witnesses"?
Since the Jehovah's Witness organization currently rejects most of the teachings of its founder Charles Taze Russell, and since they also reject "Judge" Rutherford's teachings, how can we be sure that in 25 more years, Jehovah's Witnesses won't also reject the current president, Milton G. Henschel, as they did Russell and Rutherford?
The NWT translates the Greek word "kyrios" as "Jehovah" more than 25 times in the New Testament (Mt 3:3, Lk 2:9, Jn 1:23, Acts 21:14, Rom 12:19, Col 1:10, 1Thess 5:2, 1Pet 1:25, Rev 4:8, etc.). Why is the word "Jehovah" translated when it does not appear in the Greek text? Why is the NWT not consistent in translating kyrios (kurion) as "Jehovah" in Rom 10:9, 1Cor 12:3, Phil 2:11, 2Thess 2:1, and Rev 22:21
The Watchtower Society teaches that the 144,000 of Rev 7:4 is to be taken literally. If chapter 7 of Revelation is to be taken literally, where then does the Bible say that the 144,000 will come from? (See Rev 7:5- 8).
If Jesus was executed on a torture stake, with both hands together over his head, why does Jn 20:25 say "...Unless I see in his hands the print of the nailS ...", indicating that there was more than one nail used for his hands?
Jesus uses the phrase "Truly I say to you, ..." over 50 times in the Bible. In the NWT, the comma is placed after the word "you" every time except in Lk 23:43, where the comma is placed after the word "today". Why is the comma placed after "today" instead of after "you" in this verse? If the translation of this phrase in Lk 23:43 was consistent with the translation of this phrase in all the other verses in which it appears, and the comma was placed after the word "you", how would it read?
In Rev 19:1, where does it say that the "great crowd" will be?
In Col 1:15-17, the NWT inserts the word "other" 4 times even though it is not in the original Greek (see Gr-Engl interlinear). Why is the word "other" inserted? How would these verses read if the word "other" had not been inserted?
If Jesus was executed on a torture stake, with both hands together over his head, instead of on a cross with both hands outstretched, why does Mt 27:37 say that the sign "This is Jesus the King of the Jews" was "posted above his HEAD" instead of being posted above his hands? How could it have been posted above his head if his arms were stretched out over his head?
Heb 11:16, in speaking about some of the faithful people of the Old Testament (Abel, Noah, Abraham, etc.) says, "But now they are reaching out for a better [place], that is, one belonging to heaven..." and, "... their God for he has made a city ready for them." The footnote on the word "city" refers to HEAVENLY Jerusalem of Heb 12:22 and Rev 21:2. How can this be since according to the teachings of the Watchtower Society, the only people who will go to heaven are the 144,000 spirit anointed who have been chosen from people who lived after Christ died?
Where does it state in the bible that the door to heaven shut in 1935?
Where does it mention in the bible anything about a great crowd living on a paradise earth?
Name one thing that the WTS has said would happen that has actually occurred (if 1914 is mentioned say that the bible students expected armageddon to happen and them all to be whisked to heaven in that year)
If they are always wrong and not inspired by God and their doctrines are unscriptural, why should we believe them?
I'm still working on stuff and possible questions that might be raised. I figure it's best to be prepared and play them at their own game with the bible. The ultimate would be if they read CofC & ISOCF. They are not even 'apostate' literature by the WTS own terms. Ray Franz says in the book that he's not trying to turn people away from the WTS or feed them his own personal doctrine. It's just his journey through the org and his experiences in it - people can judge for themselves what to do with that info.
Personally I don't think my parents will take everything onboard and quit but at least I can say I told them the WTS is bunk.
All the best, I hope the chat with your dad goes well.
well it finally happened.
i was summoned in the office today and told i was being fired and if i could i could a sign of letter of resignation.
i didn't because i want to get unemployment.
Sorry to hear about you're sacking. I think it's pretty underhand the way companies try and get you to sign resignation forms when they sack you. They're frightened of being taken to employment tribunals.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, you're obviously intelligent and will get snapped up by another employer. I quit my job last month, you can join me on the old rock n roll and enjoy the sunshine.
